Arsenal are trying to recruit a few recruits in the striker position in the near future and Darwin Nunez has caught the eye of Mikel Arteta.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the Emirates Stadium last month, while Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are set to leave as free agents at the end of this season. This is the reason why Mikel Arteta is forced to find more options in attack.

 Nunez caught Arteta’s eye.

CalcioMercato newspaper yesterday revealed that Arsenal are interested in signing Benfica star Darwin Nunez. The 22-year-old is having a great time in Portugal. He has pocketed 25 goals in 30 appearances this season, including the trophy against Barca in the Champions League and if he continues, he is likely to end the season with almost 40 goals.

Arsenal’s current transfer policy is to sign talented young players with great potential. Mikel Arteta and Edu are ready to spend tons of money if they are suitable, as was the case with Ben White.

The report claims that Benfica is open to letting the striker go, but Arsenal will have to fork out around £54m.

The Daily Mail revealed that Mourinho did indeed consider signing the Uruguayan in 2020. But Spurs signed Carlos Vinicius instead and it was a failure. Ironically, Nunez went to Benfica for £20.5m (Goal.com) to replace Vinicius himself and he has become a mainstay here.
