The war of words between Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka has been ongoing for quite some time now. While the two golf superstars have made it clear they might never be friends, they have decided to use their rivalry for a good cause at The Match V on Friday. Following in the footsteps of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and several other superstars from across the sporting landscape, the two major champions will participate in a 12-hole match play event at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas. DeChambeau vs. Koepka will begin at 4 p.m. ET and betting will be a primary focus with the action taking place right on the Las Vegas Strip.
The Match V odds from Caesars Sportsbook currently list DeChambeau as a -137 favorite (risk $137 to win $100), with Koepka going off as the +110 underdog. Distance is a major factor in establishing DeChambeau as a favorite, but Koepka has been the more accomplished match-play specialist as a professional. With bragging rights on the line between the two most vocal rivals in golf, anything can happen. Before locking in any Match 5 bets, be sure to see Koepka vs. DeChambeau picks and predictions from SportsLine’s proven golf expert, Mike McClure.
McClure, a DFS professional, knows golf inside and out. His proprietary model has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, it’s up almost $10,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
Earlier this month at the 2021 World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba, the model was all over Viktor Hovland (18-1) winning his third PGA Tour title. At the 2021 Open Championship, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. He was also all over Daniel Berger (+220) and Emiliano Grillo (+700) finishing inside the top-20. McClure’s best bets netted over $2,200 at the Open Championship.
In addition, McClure was all over Mickelson and Charles Barkley against Stephen Curry and Peyton Manning as +145 underdogs in the Match III. This same model has also nailed a whopping seven majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.
Now, with The Match 5 set to tee off on Friday afternoon, McClure has scoured the odds and locked in his top picks and prop bets. Head to SportsLine now to see McClure’s best bets for The Match V.
The Match V top picks, predictions
One of the Match V props McClure loves: Koepka leads after three holes for a -110 payout. Both players have eight career PGA Tour titles to their name and DeChambeau is currently the No. 7 player in the world, while Koepka is at No. 16. However, there’s no questioning that Koepka is the more accomplished player with four major championships to DeChambeau’s one.
And the intensity factor is one you shouldn’t discredit in this format. Of the two, Koepka has been the more outspoken about his dislike of the other. That ultimately puts more pressure on him in this particular instance to come out strong and he’s certainly thrived under pressure throughout his career.
In addition to Koepka’s four major championships, two of his other four wins have come in the most well-attended tournament on the PGA Tour (Waste Management Open) and another was in a WGC event with an incredibly strong field. The other was in The CJ Cup, which also regularly boasts one of the strongest fields in golf.
Koepka is also the more accomplished match play specialist as a professional, with Koepka boasting a 6-5 record in Ryder Cup play while DeChambeau is 2-3-1. DeChambeau’s distance shouldn’t be a major advantage on the first three holes at Wynn Golf Club with two par 4s playing from 400-450 yards and a par 3 on the card, so look for Koepka to jump out to an early lead.
